IFD History

"For twenty (four) years, the National Student/Parent Mock Election has been reaching out to millions of Americans and involving them in simulations of the electoral process. In doing so, they have enhanced citizen interest and fostered a greater sense of appreciation for America's democratic past, present and future."

Governor Mike Johanns, Nebraska

Since our foundation, the IFD has held Mock Elections in Puerto Rico during eight general elections (1992, 1996, 2000, 2004 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020), two referendums (1994, 2010), two political parties primaries, and mid-year elections (1995 and 1999), and four status plebiscites (1993, 1998, 2012, and 2020). In total, more than 3.5 million students have participated in our Mock Elections for Puerto Rico. In the United States, and the Virgin Islands over 15,000 students have also been active participants.

Besides the traditional Mock Elections, the IFD holds electoral debates for the young and manages the National Student Issues Forum, where kids vote on what they believe are the most pressing issues affecting them in the upcoming election. We motivate students to gel involved in everyday politics and register to vote. As part of our education campaigns for the population at large, we develop information campaigns and registration drives to support women's vote, kids' vote, and seniors' electoral franchise.

"This event is a unique opportunity to provide information and educate students and their parents about the duties of citizenship and the voting process."

Gray Davis, Former Governor of California
